The village of Efail isaf near Pontypridd hasexpanded over the years from a small agricultural village with one pub and one Welsh chapel to a small dormitory town where many people work elsewhere travelling by car to their work place . During the day the village is isolated apart from the elderly, the retired, and those who do not have a car. The bus service is very limited with only two buses a day travelling to Pontypridd the nearest town. Having the sub post office in the village is an essential asset as it provides many services to the community that would impossible to obtain without transport to outside the village. The services provided by a sub post office are well known such as free cash withdrawal, savings and investments, foreign currency, stamps, and many other services too numerous to mention There are also the usual postal services. The establishment is not just confined to postal facilities but functions as a village shop providing among other things the services of a newsagent, a good stock of beers and wines and perhaps the most essential, groceries for day to day living. The shop itself is place for meeting other people of the village and where the local news of village happenings are discussed . The owners Joanne and Owen are very welcoming and know most of the customers by name It is a refreshing change from the anonymity of the supermarket. The post office and shop at Efail Isaf are a real asset to the local community.
