My dealings with SBI UK over last two years are appalling! The branch was very helpful when opening the account but then my circumstances changed and my account became inactive. Making account active again I visited a branch in Coventry with all documents ..spent 2 hours there (!!!) finally account active but told problem with internet access and was promised a call with update..did not happen and staff never answered phone I rang in 5 times. The log in ID that was sent was not valid online, the passwords were not readable. Tried phoning many times. Gave up. Eventually account inactive again because could not access it. So this time it is 3 weeks, 25 phonecalls and still, despite doing what they say jjust discovered my account s still not active! Despite being told it was...I was trying to get the internet access going. They have a habit of not calling back, not listening, taking my details but not updating folder, saying wait 24 hrs (to everything), and cutting calls. I can not access my money or close my account! Avoid SBI!

Rediculous online application for a standard savings account - Nat. Insurance No., Passport details, Driving Licence details, everything but your inside leg measurement and then at the end of the online application they wanted me to visit a branch with my proof of identity info!! I have lived at my address for 37yrs and been on the v/r every year with a spotless credit rating. Mickey Mouse outfit - go elsewhere!

Bank of India doesn't have many outlets throughout Britain, and I only know of a couple in Birmingham, this being 1 of them. This is a great traditional branch with wonderful customer service. The cashiers speak several languages, which is great for having a large diverse and ethnic customer base. They display the daily exchange rate for Indian Rupees on the wall and the windows, so if you are looking to travel it's best to keep an eye out on how this figure does (currently 86 Rupees to the British Pound, the highest I have ever seen!). What I really like about this place is it's unique! They have incense burning at the counter, Indian newspapers with global news that you can pick up for free, fresh flowers and the whole effort creates a delightful and welcoming atmosphere. They are currently advertising their Estarconnect service, where you can transfer money abroad, and this was popular with other customers banking in their savings in front of me. If you don't hold a bank account with them and need to transfer money to India, you do need to present a valid passport and UK address verification.
