I will NEVER buy any product from this company at this particular location because of its improperly trained assistant manager, and the store racial bias.
Clearly the staff at this location lacks the understanding that every customer that walks into theirâ?? store should be acknowledged, greeted and treated with utmost professionalism irrelevant of the perceived ethnic background.
I walked into a Carphone Warehouse, at the Rotunda building in Birmingham city center UK, and for several minutes stood there waiting for a sale person to speak to, and for several long minutes no one acknowledge my presence. This has happened before, but had ingnored it.
On this day, I thought okay, perhaps because they are busy attending to other people, but then after several minutes of my standing at the front desk waiting, a white woman probably around the same age like me walked in and few seconds of her barely approaching the desk or anyone, she was acknowledged, greeted, and asked how she can be served, even as the sales person was attending to someone else.
And here I was completely flustered... because I was trying to give them the benefit of doubt that perhaps they ignored me because they were busy with other customers, but it was not so because they clearly saw me standing for several minutes, but choose to be selective in whom they deemed important to acknowledge. So, seeing the biase been displayed, I used a third person approach to acknowledge the Clark who greeted the white lady, but barely gave me a passing glance.
I thought to myself, oh, well they don't need my petronage, I will leave. But on a second thought, I walked back into the store, to voice the discriminating customer service. I approached a young man who was also behind the counter when I had initially entered the store, but he too like everyone else had ignored me. The person I approached had a name tag, and his name is Trevor, the Assistant Manager. He is Asian. Thinking, here's a manager, perhaps he will apologise sincerely and take care to attend to me. Oh, no; Trevor was just as incompetent as any untrained person can be. He fully lacked the understanding of what a proper customer service was, and also choose to ignore the fact that I was a customer.
When I told the assistant manager my observation; Trevor did the most stupidiest thing no person should do; he tries to shush me out. When I proceded to leave the store given the fact he clearly did not even wish to help me, he said..'bye bye'...In fact, rushed me off the store by saying bye bye, have a good day.' "Have a good day!
And here's a manager who clearly can choose to turn a situation around, but instead choose to do nothing because of the ways he thinks he should behave because of how he perceived me...He sees a black woman and thinksâ?? it unimportant to attend to her.
I try to prop him that he could actually turn the situation around by asking me what I wish to buy. Oh, no, Trevor clearly lacked the comprehension, and obviously didn't care If I had wished to buy a phone, or a service. His behavior was so outrageous especially as he waved me bye bye in the store.... that I thought, clearly here's an idiot that lacks the ability to be a manager. The truth is, these days if I walk into a store that choose to ignore me; I walk out and don't buy anything from that store.
And surely Carphone Warehouse has lost a customer 4 ever... Unless I had an amnesia and can't remember this company, I will NEVER buy any product from The Car phone Warehouse... Not even if it's the cheapest store to buy a phone.
And by the way, Trevor, the assistant manager at this store is hopeless...As a manager he lacks the etiquette of a service manager.
