I go there to buy books at a cheap price. Why don't I go the library? My reading speed isn't what it used to be, so I buy a book from Oxfam, you bet your arse it will still be unread a month from now. Also, it helps a charity; you really can't go wrong there.

I go there to find books for my little son. A good choice of books are available. I always find something. Prices are OK too.

Lovely shop that crams a lot into a small space. Staff always smiley.

Friendly enough staff, but for second hand books, it's way too overpriced. Some books are priced fairly, but 2nd hand magazines from 2013 being sold for more than the original cover price is taking the mick.

Great selection for such a small shop. Found a few rare books that I'd been after for ages.

Poor service, avoid. Twice I've bought records from them that upon taking them home have found them to been unplayable. On both occasions I was refused a refund. My only regret now is that I can't go less that 1 star on this review.

Always interesting books and records passing through this shop.

Worked there for a few months and still go in voluntarily from time to time. Excellent selection, lovely staff, great shop all round. You'll find plenty of great books in here and all sorts of obscure singles on CD and vinyl as well as your standard selection of albums. Lovely kids section too.

There's no other bookshops in Moesley so this one has a monopoly - in fact, the closest I can think of is the Oxfam bookshop in King's Heath. In addition to stocking books, there's also a wide range of music on both cd and vinyl. I've found a few gems in there on cd that I've never found anywhere else, and lusted after many of the rarities on vinyl that I am unable to afford (oh, for the days when charity shops didn't know the worth of their stock!) The book selection is similarly eclectic, in fact it would be rare for me to leave the shop empty handed after going in with three or four pounds to spend on a book (there'also a small selection of rare books and first pressings). Obviously, as this is a charity shop they are reliant on donations, so if it's something specific you are after it's probably better to look elsewhere. However for me, the random selection and bargains is what makes the shop fun. A good place to kill time as well as buy second books and music.

With the 'creative' reputation of Moseley, the absence of a decent 2nd-hand bookshop was, for many years, a bit of mystery to me. This mystery was solved by the opening of one of Oxfam's dedicated bookshops a couple of years ago. It's a smallish shop but the selection - as with other Oxfam bookshops - is well thought out and decent. As anyone who has scanned the bookshelves of other charity shops will tell you, there are only so many Dan Browns and Jilly Coopers you can trawl through before you give up. You don't have that problem here as there is hardly anything that would sell in an airport bookshop. The books are arranged into sections and there is a decent music and section which I am often drawn to 2nd. The place I'm drawn to first is the vinyl! The quality of the stock in charity shops quite understandably mirrors the tastes of the local community. For a vinyl head such as myself, the fact that Moseley is full of people who like Pop Music of various denominations is something of a Godsend. On my birthday this January gone, I popped in with my wife for a quick look and came out with a mint copy of Cluster and Eno - a much coveted Krautrock LP. You don't get stuff like that a Scope unless you are extremely lucky.

To be honest, I miss my second hand bookshop hunting! When I was living in Santos, São Paulo, I used to visit plenty of them weekly. Birmingham is bigger than my last address in Brazil, but it seems that all second hand bookshops here disappeared from the high streets. So, bless the charity ones! Especially this Oxfam books on Alcester Road, in Moseley. You kind of expect finding some good bargains but not so many rare and/or brand new titles like they have there. As a language books collector, I didn't resist a Spanish "Teach Yourself" edition in perfect condition that would have cost me four times more if bought anywhere else! The average price of books is around £ 4 pounds and they have a large selection of Arts, Languages and Fiction titles. It's a perfect shop for students because they're going to save money here! You can also find some good cds and records at this place and I have the feeling some rare editions can be found any time there. By the way, I just loved the music played on the background! Nothing like finding the perfect bookshop with a nice soundtrack in Birmingham!

Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Henry Fielding, Charles Dickens, William Faulkner, Virginia Woolf, Feodor Dostoevsky and hundreds of other minds on sale for a cheap price (between 1 and 4 pounds on average). Format- Paper/Hard back. Love a good read, but can't afford the high prices at major retailers? Then why not try Oxfam books for a large range of second hand novels, autobiographies, non-fiction and reference materials. Oxfam books also sells second hand vinyl, I noticed a first edition "Help' by the Beatles for only a fiver when I went in there today. I also bought myself a Will Self novel. I wasn't limited in my choice. If you want to help the third world and have a read at the same time then Oxfam Books is a must for you. I even saw a few sociology text books in here that would have saved me a lot of money when I studied Sociology at University. The condition of the books and records for sale are all very high.
