Couldn't get fuel, all pay at pump asda stations won't accept my card, no good in an emergency situation, it's strange how all other petrol stations will, what's going on?

I feel like I have been somewhat spoilt by having this 24 hour petrol station just around the corner. It's really quite a luxury to be able to use the pay-at-pump (card only no cash) at any time of day. This makes filling up before a long journey easier as you can do it late night/early morning. There is also a small shop open reasonably long hours which is usually stocked with sandwiches, drinks and the usual petrol station garb (and reasonably priced because it is supplied by Asda).
