I wish I could write a book just so that I could see it on the shelves of this shop. This is what a bookshop feels like in my daydreams. The pleasure it brings comes not only from buying books without clicks, but from the wonderful people who work here and remind me that reading a book starts a long time before you have bought it.Imagine, as a fellow admirer of the written word, walking into a well-stocked and well-staffed bookshop where you can talk to another like-minded soul and trust them to recommend your next great read. This is part of the experience that I purposefully seek out, and one that online sales will never recreate.I do hesitate to praise a branch of a chain when it is so much more tempting to support independent bookstores, but I think this shop might be one of the last refuges of true book lovers. The staff are wonderful, helpful, chatty, generous, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. I could while away full hours talking to them. They stock the quirky and the good, the obscure, the obvious and its adjacent. There is a generous section for crime lovers, all the classics, stacks of new finds, a large section for non-fiction and history, and so much more. The opportunity to come here is something I relish, and the kind of pickle I like to get into.Given the shiploads of dross that gets published annually and the competition encroaching into all our devices, it is a miracle that such islands of literary sanity still survive. How long will we fend off the obscene discount stores full of C-celeb bios and bad storytelling - none of which makes it into this discreet trove of loveliness?I do not know if Trowbridge will ever attract an author to its branch of Waterstones for a signing, but if I were a writer, I would put it on my map, just to mingle with its kind people and validate our kinship. If you are ever in the area and you enjoy a good read, this is where I would spend my Christmas pennies. One day, someone will tell stories of shops like this, and how they used to be. Those who knew these places will miss them dearly.

A very welcoming shop with a nice atmosphere. Staff very helpful and well informed. Some books you may get a little cheaper in the chain stores, but not with the same service and knowledge .

Had a £20 gift card to spend.Picked up the first book I was interested in to buy and discovered it had some damage.Same thing again with the second book. Finally settled on a paperback, which was outrageously priced at £18.99 and came with minor but acceptable damage. The final insult was there was no change, just a somewhat useless £1.01 still on the card.A complete rip off.
