Ordered a card in branch and been asked to bring proof of ID. As I had different addresses on my ID to my account(I have two addresses), the manager refused to hand me my card asking me to bring another ID which doesn't have an address (passport) as that would prove who I am.
I originally gave him a driving license.
He could also see my place of birth is not UK (although I am a UK citizen) and asked me to bring him an ID from my country of origin. I explained that is inappropriate to ask and borderline racist and he can't assume that just because I am born in another country I am still a resident of that country or that I have any ID from that country.
Even called the Santander Complaints office to raise a grievance and nobody called me back.
To top it off, they told me I can keep my PIN number but they cancelled it anyway. The PIN they sent never came and I have to wait another 5-7 working days because they can't fast track to make up for their incompetence. That leaves me without an usable card for 2 (up to 3 weeks)
Disgraceful service. I am now in the process of opening another account with another bank and taking my service elsewhere.
Wish I could leave them 0 stars.

Made an appointment a week in advance to open an account. Was 7 minutes late (also have a young baby to deal with). When arrived at the brunch there were plenty of staff members but the one I had an appointment with was already with another customer (who just walked in). He eventually came out and told me off for being late and did not particularly care whether I stay or go. Had to ask the brunch manager to find somebody else to hep me, the process of account opening took 10 minutes in the end. Not a very good customer experience at all! Will be feeding this back to Santander as well.
