Often the staff are not able to perform any actual banking functions. They redirect you to a phone line or you have to make an appointment in two weeks,when there is someone who knows what they are doing is going to be there . They close at 3 so not great flexibility if you are working .Why not have people trained in branch to deal with what should be basic banking functions?

Made an Appointment with staff regarding a savings account. Very pleased with the information by Toni (advisor) who guided us through all the options clearly and concisely, she was both very knowledgeable, and took time to explain our options perfectly. Very pleased with the Prestwich branch.

Beautifully designed for a bank, info point, cosy chairs to seat on while waiting, 3-4 counter places, 3 indoor auto tellers and one outside, pleasant and helpful staff well situated near main multiple bus routes and tram station Prestwich. Longfield centre shopping mall open air style. Medical and walk-in centre close by etc.

Unbelievably poor customer service. Arrived 30 mins. prior to a pre-arranged appointment and notified a member of staff who said she would let the person I was there to see know that I was waiting. 20 minutes after the appointment time I went to a member of staff to find out what was happening. He disappeared into a nearby office and re-appeared with the member of staff I was there to see. She asked if I had let anyone know that I had arrived. I pointed to the member of staff I had informed on arrival who said she had sent an email - an email for a distance of 10 metres!! The member of staff I was there to see said she was not logged on and therefore didn't get the email. I asked if it hadn't occurred to her to just come out of her office to see if her appointment had arrived. I walked out. When I arrived home I spent 30 mins trying to contact the Halifax, having been told by the automated reply that they were 'very busy' and the expected wait time was 2 - 5 mins. After 30 mins I gave up, rang the branch who didn't answer and was then automatically transferred to a call-centre in Belfast. Although the member of staff was apologetic and helpful it took a further 30 mins. to book an alternative appointment at a different branch and for him to log my complaint. This is not the first time I've experienced problems with the Halifax in the 40+ years I've been dealing with them. When they were a Building Society they were excellent because the customers were the shareholders. Now they are a Bank they couldn't care less about the customer.
