“We stayed one night on a 2-day November visit to York. As expected the hotel is interestingly quirky. The public spaces are well decorated with a comfortable bar and breakfast space. The service was friendly and always helpful - and it was a pleasure meeting Ted the cat. Our room (22) was up two flights of stairs. There isn't a lift so this room would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The room was fine with a comfortable bed but looked a little tired. Breakfast was good. Hotel car parking is tight but we found an available space (£15 a day). There is an outside courtyard garden which looked nice despite a cold and rainy autumn evening. The hotel is well located and only a short walk from the Minster. Good value for York. Definitely recommended.”

“Almost certainly the best hotel that we have ever stayed in - no lie and we've stayed in a few! Aside from the hotel itself what really is impressive is the level of customer service and this appears to run throughout the hotel. It's a really rare thing to find this - you find yourself being asked if you'd like or need something before you realised you wanted or needed it yourself. From reception to bar to concierge the operation here is flawless and we will be coming back for an extended leisure stay as opposed to the overnight business trip, which this was. We did valet parking as well - slick as you like!”

“A lovely hotel in probably the finest location in York. Attentive professional staff. The only criticism would be the breakfast, warm your plates and buy better black pudding or don't leave it under the lamp to go hard. Otherwise a perfect stay. Would definitely stay again.”

“Don't walk past this pub looking for something fancy .When you walk through the door you get a warm welcome from the staff and the open fire .The food is well presented and very tasty.Food & drinks: Good traditional pub food”

“Good value hotel with on-site parking. Parking spaces are limited, but they have overspill parking around the corner.Staff are really friendly, everywhere is clean and tidy.The breakfast buffet is very good value, okay then quality isn't amazing but it's cheap, and even caters for vegans!It's a short, easy walk into town.Food & drinks: Vegan options on the menu”

“This is a lovely hotel in a great location for visiting various parts of Yorkshire. It’s comfortable, clean and unpretentious. Our room was comfortable rather than plush, but it was quiet and nicely equipped with everything you might need. The staff, without exception, were delightful and the restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast as part of our deal and it was very good indeed, with a wide range of options and everything in plentiful supply. We chose to eat in the restaurant for dinner on both nights - prices were reasonable and quality was excellent.Definitely somewhere to seriously consider returning to.”

“Each time I stay here the staff are so pleasant. Rooms are fresh, spotless ly clean, well presented and comfortable. Sue S. on reception and Mags deserve particular credit for their work.Its a pleasant 30 min walk into York centre and buses pass the door every 10 minutes.”

“Had a one night stay here. All the staff were lovely but Lisa + Katie really stood out, they were so helpful & really went above & beyond for us. Food was really nice & cooked to order and even though the restaurant was full we didn’t have to wait long ?”

“Booked a standard river view for one night for my birthday. Noticed on arrival the reception area was clean and the staff looked smart. Some very slight confusion about our booking as I’d requested a double room with two single beds, however this quickly resolved. The room was outstanding. Clean, comfortable and plush. Immaculate bathroom and very crisp comfy bed linen. Facilities in the room excellent. Would definitely visit again!!”

“Great two night stay at The Black Swan. Nice garden where you can sit and have a drink before dinner. Location was good with plenty of places to stop for a drink. Good location whereby there are things to do for a couple of days without needing to use the car.”

“Thank You Holiday Inn, York. After two recent stays in other IHG branded hotels we were starting to lose faith in the brand. We’d stayed in a Voco and an Indigo - both much more expensive and supposedly better quality. Well you guys blew them both out the water with the quality of the room we had. We booked a twin room. Ended up in a room with a king size and a double bed. We only just made it to breakfast in time because we had slept so well. Even though the hotel is on a main road, we still slept through any traffic noise - and that was with the window open. Breakfast is never a big thing for me, just a bit of toast is all that I generally eat. Perfect location, a few minutes walk from the centre of town. Friendly and helpful staff.”

“Location ok if you want to visit York but want a cheaper option, however access is a bit of bind coming Westbound from York.More of the problem was the absence of anyone at reception on arrival (the freephone number left to call didn't work but fortunately the one in the email did) and the cleanliness of the bathrooms - hairs from previous occupants.More generally, I think it's ridiculous charging £3 for WiFi >30 miniutes.”

“A very comfortable room. Very clean, spacious. Nice toiletries. Good location, close to Barbican theatre. We stayed here last year and it was good, so we stayed here again this year. Expensive, but worth it.”

“Well located and an easy walk into the centre as well as the train station. The staff I encountered were all helpful and friendly as I always find with any Travelodge I stay in.I booked a Super Room this time because it was all that was available and I was quite happy with it. I did have to look up how to use the posh coffee machine as I'd never used one before!Supplies were topped up in the morning, including a fresh set of towels, which I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice surprise.The only issue I had was the size of the radiator was far too small for a room of that size and my room was rather cold. A quick visit to reception sorted that however as I was handed a spare plug in radiator without quibble and that did the job, leaving my room nice and warm.I'd be very happy to stay there again.Walkability: Both the train station and centre are within very easy walking distance. The Castle Museum is about 10-15 minutes away at most for example.”

“Lovely central clean hotel staff lovely but extremely disappointed inwifi as only half hour free then £3 for 24hrs which in scheme of things isn't too bad but if you're only in your room to sleep as out being a tourist then not good at all I've not stayed in any hotel for years that charge for WiFi so on that note would not stay again”

“Ideally centralised location and very close to the main shopping, restaurants, bars, cafes etc, and only 5 minutes walk to The Shambles area. Our car was parked for us by a member of staff, on the underground carpark attached to the hotel. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, as always. Our room was to the rear of the hotel, with an OK view, but rooms at the front of the hotel have the benefit of views of Clifford Castle. The breakfast was typically Hilton, with plenty of choice and comfortable surroundings, located at the front of the hotel with views of the Castle. All in all, an excellent stay and would highly recommend.”

“A great 3 night stay at Premier Inn!This hotel was no exception to the friendly staff that work in Premier Inn hotels, and it came with a restaurant that had all the food you need for breakfast and dinner! Overall an excellent stay! Hoping to come again!Food & drinks: You may know that all Premier Inns come with some sort of restaurant. This hotel is no exception! With great food and quick service for dinner, and excellent breakfast self-service, you couldn’t ask for more!”
